A Growing Princess

There are some clients who arrive as bookings… and others who arrive as chapters in your story. She has always been the latter.

Five years ago, a tiny princess was placed gently in front of my lens for the very first time , actually the second…her first was before she was one— soft curls, wide eyes, and that quiet curiosity babies have when they’re still discovering the world. I remember adjusting my camera, holding my breath for just a moment, because even then I could feel it… this wasn’t just a session. This was the beginning of a tradition.

Every year since, she has come back. Taller. Brighter. More full of personality than the year before. From sitting sweetly in a tutu with chubby cheeks, to twirling with confidence, to now — five years old — standing in front of my camera like she owns her story. And honestly, she does.

Watching a child grow through my lens is one of the greatest honors of my work as a visual storyteller. It’s not just about documenting birthdays; it’s about preserving evolution. The way her smile has grown more mischievous, the way her eyes now sparkle with intention, the way she laughs louder, poses prouder, and knows she is deeply celebrated each time she steps into the studio.

Her fifth birthday session felt different — not because she’s no longer little (she still is, in the sweetest ways), but because you can now see the girl she’s becoming. Confident. Joyful. Full of wonder. She twirled in her dress like royalty, gave me her “serious princess face,” then burst into giggles that filled the room with the kind of joy you can’t pose or plan. Those are the moments I live for as a photographer — the in-between magic, the real personality, the fleeting expressions that parents will one day look back on and whisper, “That was her at five.”

Year after year, her family has trusted me not just to take photos, but to hold their memories with care. And I never take that lightly. Because one day, she’ll be ten… then sixteen… then grown. And these images will become time capsules — proof that she was once this small, this sparkly, this full of childhood magic.

As I clicked the shutter during her fifth birthday session, I felt that familiar wave of gratitude wash over me. Gratitude for loyal clients who become family. Gratitude for the privilege of witnessing growth in real time. Gratitude for this beautiful little princess who reminds me, every single year, why I say: just take the photo.

Because childhood moves fast.
But photographs let us hold its hand… just a little longer.
